Hygge for the Holidays

As the holiday season peaks and the daylight hours dwindle, it’s time to close our laptops, swap shoes for slippers, and share the gift of time with family and friends. The sounds of clinking glasses and happy voices fill our homes. We know you’ve worked hard all year, especially during year-end, to make a difference in your community. Now it’s time to enjoy this well-earned pause and give a little back to yourself.

It’s been quite a year. So much change—political, economic, environmental, social—but you are doing an amazing job of adapting and weathering the storms (sometimes literally) to help others. We’re blown away daily here at Lynda Gold Manink by all the work you do to make the world a better place and how easily you do it through our donor management platform.

Right now, as you read this, families in your community are enjoying a holiday meal, thanks to you. Dogs and cats have forever homes and loving human friends, thanks to you. Coastlines are cleaner, thanks to you. Kids are getting inspired by science and art and music, thanks to you. Neighborhoods are being revitalized, thanks to you. So many good things are happening around us, thanks to you.

There’s a lot of buzz lately around hygge, (pronounced hue-guh), a Danish word denoting that good feeling we get during moments of coziness, whether alone or with friends, at home or out in the world. It’s an evening around the table with hot cocoa and a board game. Tromping into the house after sledding with your kids, red-cheeked and diving into grilled cheese and tomato soup. Settling in with a good book under a blanket by the fireplace. These are the things that bring us back to ourselves and reenergize our hearts. Give yourself time to savor those moments and let them inspire you in the coming year.

From all of us at Lynda Gold Manink to all of you, who do so much good every single day, we wish you the happiest holiday season and a most joyous new year.
